High School Choir
In our choral program, we develop students’ musicianship, learn to read music, encourage creativity and self-expression, develop teamwork, and foster an appreciation for singing.
All high school students are welcome to sign up for Concert Choir during course selection and will receive a grade (based on participation and performances). Choir is both a performance ensemble and a class where we learn vocal fundamentals and music literacy.
Students with choral experience may also join Sangamon Valley Voices, an extracurricular ensemble that rehearses before school. See our Handbook to learn more about our program.

Middle School Choir
In our choral program, we develop students’ musicianship, learn to read music, encourage creativity and self-expression, develop teamwork, and foster an appreciation for singing.
All middle school students are welcome to sign up for Choir during course selection and will receive a grade (based on participation and performances). Choir is both a performance ensemble and a class where we learn vocal fundamentals and music literacy. For 26-27, all middle school students grades 6-8 will meet during WIN (the last class period of the day, 2:22-2:55).

About the Director
Mr. John Gorecki has taught at Sangamon Valley schools since 2011. Prior to that he earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Millikin University. He currently teaches band and choir classes from grades 5 through 12. He is thrilled to work in a district where parents, administration, and the community support the important cause of music education!
Mr. Gorecki is also an active musician in the Decatur area. He sings tenor with Opus 24, the area’s premiere community choir, during the school year. In the summertime, he plays in the clarinet section and is a frequent soloist with the Decatur Municipal Band. He also serves on the board of the Decatur Municipal Band.
