SAT/PSAT Spring Testing

On April 10th, 2024, Sangamon Valley High School will administer the new digital SAT test to Juniors and the new digital PSAT to Sophomores and Freshmen. Seniors will not be required to attend that day and are encouraged to use this time for college visits, community service, etc.

The tests will take up a large part of the day as scheduled by the College Board and as a result, lunch will not be served. We will provide snacks and water, but students are encouraged to bring whatever additional snacks and drinks they would like. Students will be free to leave after their testing sessions are complete.

Students are encouraged to do their best on the test and to come prepared with a good night’s sleep. Strong performance on the PSAT and SAT this year could also lead to a final exam waiver for the fall semester next year as outlined in our Semester Exam Exemption Policy which has taken effect this year.

All students will need to have a calculator for their test. Juniors can use a graphing calculator. Many of them already have one, and if not, one will be provided. Freshmen and Sophomores must have a non-graphing calculator. The Texas Instrument TI 30XIIS is recommended. If your student has one, please have them check it with their math teacher. The district will provide any student a calculator that does not have one. The new digital testing platform has a calculator built-in for students to use. So all students will have a calculator to use for the exam.

All students testing will be using their school provided Chromebook. They will need to bring their Chromebook to school that day fully charged and also bring their charging cable. Failure to do so can result in tests being incomplete, not being able to be submitted, or a need to completely redo the test. Those students that usually use their own (non-school provided) device will need to check out a school Chromebook for testing. This should be done prior to the testing date of April 10, 2024.

All students and the Chromebooks they will use for testing will go through a Digital Readiness Check to make sure the device is working and has been updated for the testing on April 10th.

Students should also bring #2 wooden pencils. Mechanical pencils are not allowed. Also, NO CELL PHONES/ANY ELECTRONIC DEVICES will be allowed in the testing classrooms. All phones/devices will be collected from students prior to testing.

Parents/Guardians of students with 504 plans or Individual Education Plans (IEP) need to contact Mrs. Antonacci for 504 plans or Mrs. Neibuhr for Individual Education Plans, if you have questions about the process. They will explain how those plans will impact their student’s testing process and the length of their testing this year.

We will also be running earlier bus routes for those who will need a ride on that day. If your student usually rides a bus and we do not receive prior notification, we will assume your student is riding a bus and schedule them for one of the special routes that day. Contact the office if you plan on picking your student up instead of using bus service.

Tests will begin promptly at 8:10 AM and will last until  the following approximate end times including pre-testing procedures:

  • PSAT 8/9: busses will leave the school at approximately 11:00 am

  • PSAT 10: busses will leave the school at approximately 11:00 am

  • SAT: Bus will leave the school at approximately 12:00 pm

If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Antonacci, director of student services, at jantonacci@sangamonvalley.org.
