Start of School Note

As we start the new school year at SVHS I wanted to reach out to parents of both incoming freshmen and returning upperclassmen in regard to procedures and expectations at the high school level. This is a short version of our expectations and procedures. The full list of everything you need to know about the high school is found in our student handbook. Parents are encouraged to go over the handbook with their students if you haven’t already. Here is the link: SVHS Student Handbook.

First Day of Student Attendance

The first day of student attendance will be Monday August 21st. Students will enter through the main door and proceed to the gym for an assembly. Students will then receive schedules and get time to visit their lockers. They will then proceed through their classes on a shortened schedule. Teachers will go over the student handbook with students.

Student Entry

The doors to the school open daily at 8:00 am. Students should both enter and exit through the main entrance on the west side of the school. Students are not to be unsupervised in the school at any time.

School Visitors

Visitors to the school must enter through the main entrance and report directly to the main office to sign in. You can buzz the office through the intercom outside the door in order to gain entry.

Book Bags

Book bags, purses and larger satchels are to remain in lockers and should be put away as soon as students enter the building in the morning. Students may choose to carry a binder or small laptop bag for their chromebooks. Here are hyperlinks to examples of acceptable personal items: Binder Laptop case

Dress Code

Hats and hoods are to be removed when entering the building. Hats should be placed in lockers until the end of the day. Spaghetti straps, short shorts and other revealing clothes are not allowed. If you come to school wearing any of these you will be asked to change. You may review the entire dress code in the student handbook.

Tardiness

Being to school on time is very important and we expect students to be in class no later than 8:10 am every day. Students who are chronically tardy will receive consequences. You may review the entire tardy policy in the school handbook.

Cell Phones

Students are allowed to carry their cell phones, however students are expected to be responsible with them. Students must follow teacher directives related to cell phones and make sure they are not on them at inappropriate times, or doing inappropriate things with them. Any student who violates classroom cell phone policies, or who violates the student code of conduct with their phone will lose the privilege of carrying them.

Lockers

Lockers are assigned to each student and should appear on your schedule. If you need assistance with your locker, contact the office. Students are not to share lockers or give their combination to anyone.

Lunch Money

Students may turn in lunch money to the drop box outside the main office at any time. Be sure to write your full name on the envelope before doing so. Lunch payments may also be made online.

Parking Lot

Students who drive to school will use the parking lot to the south of the building. Spaces directly behind the school and along the east fence are reserved for staff members. Parents should park in the front of the school in the visitor parking area to drop off students. Everyone is expected to adhere to the school zone speed limit in front of the school and to drive safely in the parking lot at all times.

We are looking forward to a successful school year and can't wait to see the students on the 21st!
