Safe Exit Procedures in Parking Lot

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope this message finds you well. I would like to take a moment to address an important safety concern regarding the pick-up and drop-off procedures in our school parking lots.

Recently, we have received reports that some drivers have been pulling out of the parking lots directly into traffic without stopping. This practice creates a significant safety risk for our students, families, and other drivers. Most notably this has proven a concern at Sangamon Valley Primary School in Harristown.

To ensure the safety of everyone, we kindly ask all parents to adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Come to a complete stop before exiting the parking lot to ensure you have clear visibility of oncoming traffic.

  • Yield to other vehicles or pedestrians.

  • Please be patient and wait for an opportunity to exit safely. Avoid pulling into traffic if it's not clear to do so.

We understand that the school parking lot can get busy, especially during peak hours, but by following these simple steps, we can help prevent accidents and ensure a safer environment for everyone.

Thank you for your attention to this matter,

Jonathan Field, Superintendent
