Superintendent’s Welcome

I hope that you have had a relaxing summer and have had an opportunity to spend time with family and friends. It has been a busy summer as we continue to make improvements to our facilities and fill the teaching positions that are ever present during this time of the year.

Once again, I encourage you to become involved in your child’s education as we work together to provide the best education possible for all of our students. On behalf of the faculty, administration and the Board of Education, we are looking forward to the upcoming school year and the return of our students.

This is a bittersweet start to the school year as this will be my last as the Superintendent of Sangamon Valley. I will retire on June 30, 2024. This is the beginning of my 28th year in the district and 9th as Superintendent. I started in Illiopolis in August of 1994 teaching high school science and physical education. I held that position for 10 years until the consolidation of the former Illiopolis and Niantic-Harristown School Districts in 2004. I left the district at that time and accepted an administrative position for the Edinburg School District. I returned to Sangamon Valley in 2006 and served as the Middle School Principal (2006-2007) and later as the High School Principal (2007- 2015).

I have been blessed with tremendous support from the community as well as many dedicated School Board Members throughout my years at Sangamon Valley. During my tenure, we have made many improvements to the curriculum and to our facilities. However, there will always be work that needs to be done. I am confident that the current Board of Education will find a highly qualified candidate to replace me and keep Sangamon Valley moving forward. It has been an honor to serve the parents and students of our communities. Thank you!

Bob Meadows, Superintendent
